How X96 Controls Quality: Inside Our Android TV Box Testing Process
What happens before an X96 Android TV Box reaches a customer?
At X96, quality control extends far beyond final inspection. It begins with incoming materials and encompasses the entire process—from PCB assembly and equipment testing to QC inspections, warehouse checks, and final shipment. Every unit must pass our established testing protocols before being cleared for dispatch.
All these steps are indispensable.
1. Incoming Material Quality Control
Our quality control process begins with the inspection of components and materials supplied by our partners. The quality control team verifies that incoming materials meet the specifications and quality requirements of the respective production orders.
Inspections for critical components—such as main control chips (SoC), memory and storage chips, network connectivity ICs, power management and interface ICs (PMIC & Interface IC), Wi-Fi modules, and 4G modules—are extremely rigorous.
2. Mainboard Testing After SMT and DIP Assembly
After the SMT and DIP production stages, each motherboard undergoes testing to verify the proper functioning of its key interfaces and features. This enables us to detect issues related to assembly, soldering, components, or ports before the PCB proceeds to the next stage of production.
Beyond the automated camera-based visual inspection, our motherboards undergo a round of manual inspection on the workshop floor. Next, the system is installed, after which port testing can be scheduled.
3. Mainboard Aging and Stability Testing
After leaving the SMT workshop, the motherboards—having undergone preliminary testing—are sent to the assembly workshop for burn-in testing. This process helps detect intermittent faults and confirms that the motherboards operate reliably under continuous use.
4. Power Adapter and Cable Testing
The power cord will be checked again before being packed into the box.
Power adapters and cables are powered on and inspected prior to packaging. A stable power supply is crucial for the reliable operation of Android TV boxes, IPTV receivers, and digital signage players.
5. Complete Device Power-On Testing
After final assembly, each TV box undergoes another power-on test to confirm that the device boots up and operates correctly. Units that fail to meet the requirements are removed from the production line for further inspection.
6. HDMI, AV, and Display Testing
Video output is one of the most important functions of a media player. We test HDMI output, AV output (as appropriate), and screen display performance to ensure video and audio signals are working properly.
7. Network and Connectivity Testing
Each applicable device is tested for its supported connection functions, including:
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- Ethernet
These tests are especially important for IPTV, OTT streaming, digital signage, Cloud gaming player and remotely managed commercial devices.
8. Software and System Testing
Our team inspects the firmware, operating system, user interface, pre-installed applications, and basic device functionality. For customized OEM and ODM projects, we also verify customer-specified elements—such as boot logos, boot animations, launchers, applications, and configuration parameters—as well as other agreed-upon software requirements.
9. Final Quality Inspection Before Warehousing
Before finished goods are placed into storage, our quality control team conducts a final random inspection; only products that pass all required checks are approved for warehousing and shipment.
Upon request, we also accommodate inspections conducted by the customer or a third party prior to shipment, ensuring customers have complete confidence in the quality of their orders.
